Day 12 – Frejus

We had ended up going to bed rather late on Tuesday, not wanting to sleep until we knew Tom’s mum was stable.  Likewise, we woke early, eager for an update.  Before Tom had chance to phone the hospital, he had a message from his sister to say that they had phoned her and asked her to come in, as Sue was so poorly.  The morning was spent anxiously waiting.  However, Tom manged to speak to his mum’s doctor who was very lovely and knows Sue well.  She assured us that there was no need for us to rush back and she was happy that Sue was showing signs of improvement.  After another positive call to them at around 2pm, during which Tom manged to speak to his mum, we decided we needed to get out and walk off some adrenaline.

We headed for the local seaside town of Frejus.  It was only a 20 minute drive and was a really pleasant surprise.  Up the hill, the old town has beautiful pastel coloured buildings, artisan shops and a square with a lovely cathedral.  We had a good potter and some delicious ice cream from a shop on the square (chocolate and pistachio for me, coffee and crème brulee for Tom).

Next we drove down and parked near the beach and ports, where we had another lovely wander, this time with granitas to cool us down!  Tom spoke to his sister again and we were happy to hear good news from Hull.

The car park was rather rough in parts!

The port is smaller than some of the towns on the south coast, but really pretty, with a wide selection of eateries and bars around it.    We sat by the beach and watched the world go by for a little while.

On our way back, we visited an enormous supermarket to stock up on a couple of things for tea.  It had four aisles of wine etc!

After some more catching up with news from home, we watched the sun set and Tom cooked himself another steak, with prawns this time!
