Here we go again! Summer holiday 2019!
This year, we are taking in Valencia, Barcelona, Marseille and the South Coast of France (including trips to places like Monaco!). We will be using a plane, some trains and an automobile! 🙂
After a manic morning of packing all of our stuff up, we headed to the airport courtesy of Lois’ parents, Ted and Chris. A steady drive down the M1 with no traffic is how you want it to be, no traffic etc. After a brief wait in departures, check-in opened and we snaked our way up to the check-in desk; all went smoothly.
Onto security, and with my fleet of six drones not even drawing any attention, as always happens, a couple of our bags got pulled up for a manual check. A few forgotten electronics and a couple of cleared swabs later, and we were on our way to the departures lounge.
We quickly found somewhere to eat, as we had just under an hour until boarding started. We both opted for burgers, and each had a beer (I was feeling a bit giddy and actually ordered two at the same time, much to Lois amusement! :)).
After an unexpected trek to the boarding gate, we made good use of our priority boarding and skipped the queues… to join a further queue of people outside, waiting ready to board the plane. It was a nice clear day, so we didn’t mind, and we WERE GOING ON HOLIDAY!
Up in the air, everything went smoothly, and we enjoyed a couple of cheeky drinks, whilst watching the varying scenery from the window.
Safely landed in Valencia, we weighed up public transport vs jumping in a taxi. As it was late, and the taxi was going to only cost around 20-25 EUR, we opted for the treat route. It was a really interesting journey that gave us a first glimpse into Valencia.
Safely checked in to our hotel, we headed out to find some food!
There wasn’t a huge choice near where our hotel was, but we did find a lovely little Italian (there’ll be plenty of time for Spanish food!).
We both opted for pizzas, and Lois had a lovely prosecco, whilst I had some house red.
After the waiter found out Lois spoke Italian, our second glasses of wine were more generous, and we decided to treat ourselves to a Limoncello each.
After those going down very well, we asked for two more, and then a few minutes later, the waiter appeared with the remains of a very large bottle of Limoncello and just said, in Italian, help yourselves!
We had a couple more measures each, before deciding we should head back to the hotel. The whole bill came to 38 EUR, and he hadn’t charged us for any of the Limoncello, so we left a healthy tip.
We’d recommend this little place.
Kest’e Ristorante Pizzeria Napoletana, Av. de França, 36, 46023 València
Safely back at the hotel, we fell asleep pretty quickly, looking forward to exploring the city in the morning.
